How’s Your Speech?

Colossians 4:6 Let your speech be alway with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man. “Let your speech be alway with grace.. This is important as a believer how we are to talk, and not to just be talking as a believer, but around them that are without (the lost world). There’s a guy at my work one year younger than myself that recently told me that he got saved, but he’s being going to a contemporary type church and has recently been coming to work messed up on drugs. One day he’s asking bible questions to me then the next day and even after the asking he still uses profanity out of his mouth. Is he saved? That’s between him and the Lord. His testimony he claims he’s trusted in the Lord, so it’s possible that he is and still a babe. But, how are we to speak? Our speech should be daily about the Lord and his word! Verse 5, “Walk in wisdom toward them that are without, redeeming the time.” If we want to win this world to Christ they have to see that change and not the old man. Sure the old man is a daily battle, but they need to see the change else they want believe that what’s claimed is real. Verse 6 continues by saying, “Let your speech be alway with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man.” If profanity is constantly spewing out whether out of anger or just talking as the old man, where’s the grace? It’s not a speech seasoned with salt. How are we to answer every man when the speech reflects the old man? This life is hard and a daily battle, but hypocritical speech confuses this lost world and they off to themselves do talk, (I’ve personally heard it) and they doubt and question what you claim. Living right and living in the word are a daily must to help in our spiritual walk. We have to pray for each other also as Paul did when he asked the brethren concerning our speech as he said earlier on in the context, “Withal praying also for us, that God would open unto us a door of utterance, to speak the mystery of Christ, for which I am also in bonds: That I may make it manifest, as I ought to speak.” (Verses 4-5) How can that be done if the speech isn’t right? It can’t! Speaking right, living right, showing forth Christ, growing daily, growing in the word, praying and drawing closer to the Lord…it’s important! That door of utterance being opened and knowing how to answer every man (because you’ve been daily in the word) is a wonderful thing, and them seeing that you are not fake (having a good testimony) will help greatly and allow you to be in the right place where the Lord can use you. “Withal praying also for us, that God would open unto us a door of utterance, to speak the mystery of Christ, for which I am also in bonds:”

Do You Understand The Spiritual?

John 6:63 It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.
