A Measure Of Wheat For A Penny

Revelation 6:6 And I heard a voice in the midst of the four beasts say, A measure of wheat for a penny, and three measures of barley for a penny; and see thou hurt not the oil and the wine. “When looking here where it mentions a “penny” most people here in America view it in light of our currency where an American penny is only worth one cent in value. But, we must remember that this isn’t talking about American currency, and everything in the Bible isn’t a reference to America. That’s a selfish view of the scripture! On the contrary, if we reference scripture with scripture we’ll notice something. In Matthew 20:2 it reads, “And when he had agreed with the labourers for a penny a day, he sent them into his vineyard.” Right here we notice that a penny is earned for a full days pay, or in other words its worth a full days wage. Back then a penny in the Jewish cultish (not the rest of the worlds) had the value of equaling a full day of work. In our text it says, “…A measure of wheat for a penny, and three measures of barley for a penny;” The measure of wheat for a penny if calculated right was a bushel and a half, and three measures of barley for a penny meant you’d have to work all day long to earn the one penny to buy one meal, and you’d most likely end up going hungry to earn your wage resulting in a crisis for food (Mt. 20:1-15). During times of famine the food supply is limited, (Ez. 4:16) and it’s given out in portions for that full days wage of a penny. What does that mean? It means you’re working all day long to earn one meal, and then the next day it’s repeated all over again and in the Tribulation this will happen for 3 1/2 years and 6 months. This will result in people killing people in order to survive complete chaos. If it were referencing a penny in our culture you’d have to have hundreds of pennies in order to buy a meal depending on where you go. (excluding junk food) We see prices rising more and more today to buy food, but it won’t compare to that time when the inflation will cause chaos and a complete struggle for the penny a day.”
