John 6:63 It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life. “When talking his disciples, Jesus was trying to give to them the spiritual, but there was some that didn’t believe him. The Jews didn’t understand the spiritual, even many of his disciples didn’t either “this is an hard saying; who can hear it?” Many still today don’t understand the spiritual when we speak. Why? To them it is an hard saying because one of two reasons: 1. They’re babes in Christ 2. They’re lost and dead in trespasses and sins The Jews were lost, (Jn. 8:24) and the disciples had a problem with what the Lord was saying (Jn. 6:60). The Lord knew this, (vs. 61) and it still carries on into today when we try to give the spiritual to this world. (Gal. 4:16) This world has a problem with the truth because it’s spiritually discerned, (1 Cor. 2:14) and that’s why they can’t receive what we say because it’s life, and they are still dead! They’re still going around profiting nothing thinking they are gaining everything, when all the while they are but a step away from dying in their sins. The spirit needs to be quickened before they may understand the spiritual. “it’s the spirit that quickeneth” If we’re talking to babes in Christ then they need to grow in the word. If they aren’t growing they’ll never understand the spiritual, or anything from the word, and they’ll be tossed about with anything and everything they hear and see. They need the word of truth given to them rightly divided under the complete obedience of the Holy Spirit, (2 Tim. 2:15) that’s the only way that they’re going to grow and begin to understand the spiritual. If they aren’t growing they’re most likely listening to someone not following the Holy Spirit’s lead, or they’re not listening at all. If they aren’t saved, they need to get saved! (Eph. 1:13, 2:8-9;1 Cor. 15:1-4; Rom. 3:25;) If they aren’t growing, then they need to be growing (2 Pet. 3:18) in the word (1 Pet. 2:2) learning how to rightly divide, (2 Tim. 2:15) and putting on the armour of God (Eph. 6:10-18) that may stand against the wiles of the devil.”
